Cough Etiquette

  • Wash hands after blowing
  • your nose, coughing, sneezing,
  • or encountering mucus or
  • contaminated objects/surfaces.
  • If soapwastebasket and water
  • are unavailable, use an
  • alcohol-based hand rub as an
  • interim measure.
  • Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or cough/sneeze into your upper sleeve(s)
  • Dispose of used tissues in the wastebasket 

Keep the workplace clean!

  • Frequently clean all commonly touched work surfaces, work areas, and equipment such as telephones, doorknobs, lunch areas, etc.

Educate yourself!


  • Train yourself on how the flu can be transmitted in the workplace and what precautions can be used to prevent transmission. 


Information should be provided on:

      • Signs, symptoms, and complications of the flu
      • Policies and procedures for reporting symptoms, using sick leave, and returning to work
      • Vaccinations and any other required work practices
